The The University of Baguio formally opened its College of Nursing in June, 2002. It is covered by Temporary Permit No. 33 s. 2002 issued by CHED CAR Director Joseph D. de los Santos, Ph.D. The College is under the leadership of Mrs. Catalina Alinduza who holds Master of Arts in Nursing major in Nursing Administration and a Master of Arts major in Medical-Surgical nursing. Assisting her to teach the major subjects are twenty-four (24) full-time and nine (9) part-time BS in Nursing graduates and several doctors of medicine who teach in other allied medical courses being offered in UB.
The BSN curriculum of the College aims to develop students to have caring qualities, national identity, cultural consciousness, moral integrity and spirituality ready to: demonstrate beginning professional competences; assume responsibility for personal and professional development; and utilize research findings in the practice of the profession.
The Curriculum has its competency-based and community-based components. The former entails the development of student’ skills, knowledge and appropriate attitude in caring for patients in the clinical area. The latter is focused on learning the primary health care 1 and 2, community organizing participatory action research, community development and delivery of health care services concepts, which are applied to community clientele initially during the second year and intensively during the BSN II and IV Immersion Program.
Since the College is one of the new courses opened to respond to the increasing universal need of qualified nurses, quality standards are vitally considered for its recognition by the Commission on Higher Education, Board of Nursing, Professional Regulation Commission and the Association of the Deans of the Philippine Colleges of Nursing.
With the urgent demand of society for nurses, the University intends to produce beginning autonomous, caring and competent nurse practitioners. The success is measure, however, in terms of how much love, dedication and competence of faculty in training the students are sown, grown and gathered from the ambience and from the students.
