The structure could be likened to a man tiling the soil on the side of a mountain and stays there till his work is done, despite strong winds and rain. The building is rooted on the base of the hill, which starts to rise from Lakandula Street. The tiered edificies tenaciously cling to the mountainside, the topmost of which proudly stands beside the Anacleto Diaz Road. This unique structure must be the reason the high school building remained undamaged after the 1990 earthquake.

The University of Baguio Science High School is Asia's first science high school, built on more than four decades of forward-looking traditions and a unique paternal culture, the U.B. Science High School is like a tower molded with the lives and thoughts of its students and graduates.
Way back in 1963, upon graduating from the sixth grade, some students all over Baguio took a special test. The students who passed were put together in one class. Composed of 39 brilliant students, the class was called the Special Science Scholars Section (SSSS). Since then, an annual scholarship exam was being administered for the best and the brightest pupils. In 1967, the first batch of intellectually gifted students graduated, it was also the same year the U.B. Science High School was born.
