UB lands major spot in nat’l tourism competition

The UB team is presented with the Trophy of Excellence during the congress.

Contending against 34 schools from across the nation, the University of Baguio (UB) finished at the top five in this year’s Union of Filipino Tourism Students (UFTE) Cup held at the Our Lady of Fatima University in Quezon City on Feb. 28.

The Cup – which was part of the 8th Annual National Tourism Students’ Congress – gathered an estimated 1,300 tourism students from across the archipelago.

UB – represented by Ranyl Bulatao and Michelle Virador – topped the poster and slogan making category, winning as the champion.

The University also qualified as a finalist in international tour guiding, tour package proposal preparation, and quiz bee events. The team was composed by Rachelle Anne Montoya, Marville Badua, Jana Navana, and Maireen Jade Namoro.

For its over-all performance, UB was presented with the Trophy of Excellence.

“The award speaks of the kind of education that we provide our students in UB, specifically in the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM),” said Jenelyn Magpatoc, chair of the Bachelor of Tourism Management program of UB.

“It also confirms that the standards at the UB SIHTM are indeed within the national standards, and even higher,” she added.

The Cup – organized by the UFTE and the Union of Filipino Tourism Educators, Inc. – revolved around the theme “Earth our Home, Water our Life.”
