The University of Baguio (UB) has dominated the Luzon eliminations of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (PICPA) National Accounting Quiz Showdown – commonly dubbed NAQDOWN – held in San Fernando City, Pampanga on July 13.
Stephanie Solomon, a fifth year accountancy student of UB, finished as the champion in the competition – attended by over 40 top accounting students from different universities in Luzon. It tackled all subjects covered in the licensure examination for Certified Public Accountants (CPA).
“Our professors and reviewers are always saying that everything in life is an investment… Invest in yourself and you will reap great harvests in the future. They taught us more than enough and reinforced us with motivation to improve more. It is this nurturing culture that makes us strive to work hard and be the best that we can be,” Solomon said.
Solomon will compete in the finals set in October in Dapitan City. The championship will be one of the highlights of the annual mid-year convention of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA).
The regional eliminations, which were held in line with the celebration of this year’s Philippine Accountancy Week, were simultaneously conducted in four areas in the country – Luzon (Pampanga), NCR (Mandaluyong), Visayas (Cebu), and Mindanao (Davao).
The event was spearheaded by PICPA in coordination with NFJPIA. It was co-organized by SGV and Co., Isla Lipana & Co., Punongbayan & Araullo, and R.G. Manabat & Co. – some of the biggest accounting firms in the country – and various CPA review schools. – Noah Rex Talosig, Stephanie Solomon, and Deo Tolentino
