Int’l OJT: The Vietnam Experience

Editor's Note: The University of Baguio deploys its Hotel & Restaurant Management and Tourism students in establishments in the country and abroad for its local and international on-the-job training program. For over five years, UB has deployed more than 200 trainees in more than three countries across Asia and America. In the following article, UB interns Princess and Claire share their experience training in Vietnam.

In April – July 2015, as tourism students, we had the opportunity to experience working in the property. In our three months of training, we were able to broaden our knowledge and hone our skills and abilities in the hospitality industry. The exposure truly helped us understand more about the different aspects of the hospitality industry particularly hotel operations.

Christian Bernkopf, the general manager, was very thankful for the service we have rendered during our stay in the hotel. According to him, they saw how passionate and dedicated we were in providing service to our guests.

It has absolutely been a great privilege for us. It was a two-way learning journey for all of us. We gained a deeper understanding about the operations of a hotel; at the same time, we had the chance to share what we have learned from the four years of our training at the University of Baguio.
