UB's Rodolfo “Mang Odet” Yaranon was named an Istorya ng Pag-asa Champion by a photoblog officially run under the office of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
Mang Odet was honored for a life of inspiration in a recognition ceremony graced by Vice President Robredo at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) last Aug. 30.
Mang Odet was fêted along with 19 others “who have inspired others that there is hope, whatever the circumstances [may be] at present.”
Mixed martial artist and lightweight champion Eduard Folayang and Councilor Arthur Allad-iw, among others, were also honored at the ceremony.
The tribute was organized by Istorya ng Pag-asa, an originally independent photoblog which was eventually adopted by Vice President Robredo.
Vice President Robredo handed Mang Odet a signed copy of his story during the ceremony.
Mang Odet’s story first appeared on UB’s photoblog Faces of UB:Campus Backstories. It was picked up by Istorya ng Pag-asa, which was also launched in Quezon City, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro, Palawan, Naga, and Cebu.
An exhibit for the Istorya ng Pag-asa Baguio stories, in which Mang Odet's story is included. was first hosted by UC earlier in September. At the exhibit, a foreign guest remarked, “These [are] the stories the children of today need to know and discuss and share – stories that shape good values.”
Currently, the stories are on exhibit at the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary, and will be hosted there until Oct. 30.
The exhibit will also be hosted by St. Louis School Center (Nov. 3 - 29, 2017) and SM Baguio (Dec. 1, 2017 – Jan. 1, 2018).
