That Korean Thing / Going Metro

KARL, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Karl derives his style aesthetic from Korean fashion.

I loved watching Koreanovelas when I was younger. It influenced my style,” he says. “I was very simple when I was younger. There’s nothing wrong with that, you know, but I didn’t quite have my own style. Good thing my siblings are into fashion. It made me realize that I needed to take things up a notch,” he adds.

This week’s style bum caught the fashion bug at 16. “Back in high school, a friend encouraged me to be a freelance model. I tried – I trusted myself I could be good at it. It definitely broadened my horizons and increased my knowledge on the things I should and should not wear, on the things that suit me and my personality. I learned a lot,” he shares.

His style principle is pretty simple: Get fashion ideas. Recreate them and make them your own.

Peering into a little bit of his lifestyle, Karl indulges in restaurant and café hunting. He listens to a lot of pop, classical and covers.

His comfort track? The Pentatonix cover of “Say Something”.

And we can’t not ask about his current addiction. That would be Pentatonix (yes, the a cappella group, mentioned earlier), make-up tutorials (he binge-reads Cara Birnbaum’s

Universal Beauty”) and choreography.

 STYLE TIP FOR THE WEEK

Over the past years, the Korean Wave – Korean fashion and music, specifically – has taken the world by storm. The Philippines largely embraced the influence, and this week’s ensemble is inspired by such. (In pop culture, the look basically touches on metrosexual style.)

A prominent fixture in every Korean wardrobe is the blazer. Obviously, the highlight of this week’s number is the blue denim blazer, which is divine in all its glory.

It was thrown over a white longline shirt – another piece worth discussing.

Long-length tops for men are popular these days. You can see a lot of male bloggers sporting them. Just remember that when styling long-length or oversized tops, you shouldn’t oversize everything, and they work best with skinny pants and boots. Now, if you’re going for a sporty look for your long-length shirt, you should definitely wear it with sneakers (a monochrome ensemble is highly recommended, like wearing either a white or gray longline top with black slim pants and a white pair of sneakers).

The look also features a pair of pastel joggers, juxtaposed against the boots’ dark color. The impressive color combination gave emphasis on each of the pieces,

making each stand out.

At the end of it all, the key to perfecting your look is by bringing with you every stylish being’s friend – confidence!

Note: The most stylish folks in the world are the ones who – in faded shirt and jeans – strut it out with confidence.
