The Fall Mix
AIKA, BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION – ENGLISH
We definitely do not have fall season – we’re located somewhere where our seasons just have to be summer and rainy – but who says we can’t be cloaked in outfits that are fall-inspired?
So fall (or autumn) is that time of the year when it starts to get cold, so majority of the Canadian, Japanese or Korean wardrobe (or wherever fall is experienced) tends to include pieces that fall between the winter vibe and the summer feel.
Aika (who, by the way, is half-Japanese and half-Cordilleran, but looks more Korean than Japanese :-)) has sort of captured such blend.
Currently addicted to: Lipstick and coffee
Binge-watches: Chick flicks and rom-coms, Korean short films (on PlayList Global)
Binge-reads: Classic novels, books on personal and spiritual growth
Comfort track: "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato (sang it a number of times in competitions)
Comfort activities: Long walks, binging on sweets
Listens to a lot of: Pop, LANY
Style principle: Never miss on bags and shoes – they're a part of the whole thing that's going on in your outfit.
Style history: I never really put much effort in dressing up until I realized the role of style in self-expression. I came to understand that what we wear actually reflects our personality and creativity.
Caught the fashion bug at age: 16, when I stayed in Japan for a year – it's where I saw the need for me to level up my fashion game
Favorite style item: If only my ears were pierced and that I wasn't allergic, I'd say earrings, but this is just not the case, so I'd go with bracelets instead.
Favorite go-to looks: (1) Patterned sleeve top, beige trench coat, jeans, wedge, backpack; (2) lace top, denim jacket, striped pants, silver tote, heels; (3) loose floral top, leggings, bag
Style icons: Selena Gomez, local fashion, travel and lifestyle bloggers Sophie Ramos and Vernie Enciso
With fall fashion, restraint and propriety is the name of the game, but add lace to the mix and you’ll be uttering this: naughty has never seemed so nice.
Three things you need to always remember when purchasing pieces – right length, right cut, and right fit.
While in fashion there are dozens of rules, perhaps the one rule you cannot fail to not follow is this: wear what makes you happy. Along with confidence, it’s one secret that makes some of the most stylish girls stylish. After all, being happy translates to being nice, thus the mantra, “I’m nicer when I like my outfit.” Aren’t we all nicer when we like our outfit and don’t we all feel rad when we are happy about what’s on us?

If someone came up to you and handed you a book and when you started reading it you realized it was a book about your entire life, would you read it to the end?
No. I probably wouldn’t even take a peek at the parts. I think what truly makes life exciting is the uncertainty of everything. If you knew everything that’s supposed to happen in your life, I’m 100% sure your life would be boring. Surprises, whether good or bad, add season to life.
If you knew you were going to die one year from today, what will you do with that time?
This is a no-brainer for me. I would always go back to my happy place – I would spend the entire year being on the island (Jintotolo Island, where I’m from) with my family and loved ones. It’s the most beautiful and peaceful place for me. Everything there is slow and just, well, LOVELY. Death wouldn’t be a painful thing to bear if I’d be surrounded by everything and everyone I love.
Advice you would give your younger self:
Stop being too shy, you silly! You’ve already missed out on too many opportunities because of your shyness! It’s just always scarier in your mind.
