Kimberle was Binibini No. 4 in the Binibining Pilipinas 2016 pageant. She finished as one of the Top 15 Semifinalists.

“My Dad is from Barlig, Mt. Province. My mom traces her ancestry to Benguet and Barlig. I have a heritage that’s definitely Cordilleran. A child of the mountains, if you will.”

Binibining Pilipinas made me realize I can be strong – I went there alone; I didn’t have my mom with me. When you’re there, you need a firing heart. When you’re there, you will learn patience and independence. When you’re there, you need to toughen up, fortify your faith. And people will always have something to say about you, so be prepared to handle the beating.

“Pageants are a tough thing, too. Behind all the make-up and pumps is the opposite of comfort and fab. You’d wait long hours, wear heels all day, squeeze in skin-tight outfits, put make-up on (I’m the tomboy, rugged type – I know it’s ironic), do your gym routine, eat less, etc. So, yeah, it’s not all glitz and glamor.”

Planning to join again?

“Pageants are not really the ultimate thing for me. There’s a chance, probably, but not in the nearest future. For now, I want to focus on helping my family. I’ve always wanted to put up my own business, like a restaurant, and I think I want to direct all my energy into making that happen.”

What was your saddest moment?

“When my dad passed away three years ago. It felt like everything froze and everything just stood still. That was our darkest moment as a family. I guess it was because the death was sudden and it was too much for us to take. When something like that happens, you realize how fragile life is, and you start appreciating the people around you more. Because you’ll never know who’s going to be called home so soon.”

What makes you happy?

“Being home with my family.”

Give some random things about you.

“I guess I’m an introvert. In a week I need to spend a day alone by myself, not talking to anybody. I would cook, do some stuff, or sleep all day. If I can’t do that, I don’t think I can pull through the following week. I talk to myself more than I talk to others. I’m not usually the first person to approach, but if you talk to me, I’ll talk. A lot.”

“I’m an aquarist – there’s this big aquarium that I keep at home. I frequent the beach. Shopping? Not so much; I prefer outdoor adventure. I listen to rock music mostly, and if you’ll ask what my favorite tracks are, I’m going to give you Linkin Park’s ‘Somewhere I Belong’ and ‘In The End.’ I binge-watch Criminal Minds, and I followed CSI and The Mentalist closely.”

Complete the statement: I wish I…

“I wish I had my own submarine. I’ve always been fascinated by the ocean. We have seen the moon but I don’t think someone has ever gone under. I want to be the first to do that.”

“I wish I could read people’s minds. I want to know what they think about the world. Discovering the world takes more than a lifetime, but I think that it’s possible to explore the world fully in this lifetime through other people.”

What one word best defines you?

“That would be ‘simple.’ I’m down with almost anything.”

“I can hang out with anybody. When you see me on the street, throw in some ‘Hello!’ and I hope we can be friends. I’m that kind, I swear.”
