In a brilliant display of excellence, Ms. Jewel Chrissaerain Frigillana Tucneg of the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) was selected out of a pool of twenty-two (22) other young women to be among the Top 10 Outstanding Young Women of Baguio City. She was the only representative of the University of Baguio to qualify among the ranking, marking her distinction as one of exceptional merit and achievement.
Ms. Tucneg is an active member of the National Youth Commission, serving as an active youth leader of the City of Baguio. Among her activities with the Commission include conducting an information education campaign in 2022 together with the Philippine Army and helping with a public consultation session with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation. Her active role as a youth leader in the city has also overseen major events such as the Peace Convention, Peace Concert, and Youth Leadership Summit. Apart from active volunteerism, she has also represented the Philippines on an international level at the ASEAN Youth Summit in 2023 and was named Best Diplomat 2023 in Malaysia.
Her tireless efforts to serve the community are only a part of the reason for her monumental achievement. She also attributes her success to the unwavering support of her family and friends, as well as the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) from the university who have supported her throughout her tenure as a student.
Ms. Tucneg’s nomination was announced on March 31, 2024, and a qualifying interview was held on April 3. She stands as a pillar of distinction for all young women of the university, showing that hard work and dedication are indispensable for chasing one’s dreams and aspirations. Her achievement as a student of UB is a testament to the pursuit of perfection that the university is constantly striving for, building the ideal into a magnificent reality within students like Ms. Tucneg.
