University of Baguio Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Community Event in Barangay Pinsao Proper

In a vibrant display of community spirit and academic celebration, the University of Baguio (UB) marked its 75th anniversary with a dynamic event held in Barangay Pinsao Proper on April 20, 2024. Spearheaded by the Research Innovation and Extension Community Outreach (RIECO) in collaboration with UB High School, UB Science High School, UB Laboratory Elementary School, School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety, School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts, School of Law, Center for Counseling and Student Development, Library Department and Security Office, the event aimed to foster deeper ties with the local community while showcasing the institution’s commitment to education, outreach, and service.

From 9am to 3pm, the bustling streets of Barangay Pinsao Proper at Models of Nonpareil & Outstanding Learning Co. (MONOL) ground transformed into a hub of activity. Faculty, staff, alumni, and students of UB, alongside residents from Pinsao and neighboring areas, came together to partake in a diverse array of engaging activities.

Under the overarching theme of community engagement and enrichment, the event featured a plethora of activities catering to all ages and interests. Among the highlights were:

Variety Show: A showcase of talent and creativity from students and faculty members, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistic prowess of the university community.

Robotics and Microscopy: Science Exploration: An interactive exhibit designed to ignite curiosity and interest in science among young learners, featuring hands-on demonstrations and experiments in robotics and microscopy.

Information Drive: Providing vital information on various topics such as health, safety, education, and community services, empowering attendees with knowledge and resources to enhance their well-being and quality of life.

Wellness and Career: Workshops and seminars focused on holistic well-being and career development, equipping participants with valuable skills and insights to thrive personally and professionally.

Storybook Splash & Face Painting: Delighting children with the magic of storytelling and creative expression through face painting, sparking imagination and joy.

Board Games: A space for friendly competition and camaraderie, where individuals of all ages could come together to enjoy classic board games and strategic challenges.

Mini Music Concert: A melodic interlude featuring performances by talented musicians and singers, offering moments of relaxation and enjoyment for all in attendance.

Recruitment of Marshalls and Guards: Providing opportunities for community members to actively contribute to safety and security efforts within their neighborhood, fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment.

Preparation and Notarial Services of Simple Document: Offering essential legal services to community members, ensuring accessibility and support in navigating legal processes.

Book Donation Drive: Encouraging a love for reading and learning by distributing books to enrich the libraries of local schools and communities.

The event not only served as a platform for celebration, but also as a testament to UB’s enduring commitment to community engagement and service. By opening its doors and extending its resources to the residents of Barangay Pinsao Proper and beyond, UB reaffirmed its role as a catalyst for positive change and development in the region.

With faculty, staff, alumni, and students actively participating and engaging with the community, the event exemplified the spirit of collaboration and unity that defines the University of Baguio. UB Bikers Event: Promoting Wellness and Making a Difference

The University of Baguio (UB) recently held the UB Bikers event, a fundraising activity aimed at supporting various causes while promoting a healthy lifestyle. With the participation of bikers from different organizations, including esteemed guest Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, the event showcased the community’s commitment to making a difference. Children, teenagers, and alumni of UB, along with faculty and students, came together to contribute their efforts and create a positive impact. The event not only raised funds for charitable organizations but also emphasized the importance of physical and mental well-being.

STELA & SBAA Join Forces in Promoting the Welfare of Visually Impaired Individuals

Visually impaired members of the V.I.P.P.D. attended a lecture-consultation by STELA and SBAA. The goal was to assist them in managing their finances and business sustainably. Dr. Candido Perez discussed entrepreneurship, while Mr. John V. Balanquit talked about personal finance. Attendees had the chance to ask about maintaining a business, effective product marketing, and finding reliable suppliers.
