“The secret of success is constancy to purpose.”  This rather provocative aphorism has roused the Center’s enduring effort towards the University’s advancement.  In barely 6 months since the emergence of the UB Research and Development Center, much has been accomplished owing to the staff’s perseverance, the University personnel’s cooperation, and the administration’s unqualified support.

As the fist semester commenced, the Center was continually requested to conduct various surveys riveted on forthcoming and previous activities within the University.  It is also among the chief functions of the Center to prompt and amass faculty researches and to date, there are 30 ongoing studies, while 10 have been completed prior to the conclusion of the semester.  With the earnest desire to add to the University’s reservoir of researches, the entire staff has generated their own researches.  To boot, the Center convened several faculty researchers last October 2 for a budget hearing wherein each proponent presented and defended his / her estimated research expenditures before obtaining approval for funding.

The accumulation of faculty / employee researches would not have been fully set forward without the indispensable assistance of the College Research Anchorpersons who have persistently heartened colleagues to immerse themselves in research.  The previous term also marked the inception of the University’s Research Instructor’s Group, which has assumed the responsibility of enriching the Research syllabi thereby strengthening institutionalized methods and techniques.

The Center has also endeavored in providing assistance to faculty researchers and students who have relentlessly sought counsel and help vis-à-vis instrumentation, data gathering, statistical treatment, and research writing per se.  Concomitant with this is the staff’s inclination to impart their continually surging knowledge and skills hence, the regular instruction at the elementary and secondary levels and the keen participation in seminar – workshops pivoted on Investigatory projects.

Of paramount help to active and prospective researchers is the Center’s newly created webpage.  By simply logging in to www.ubaguio.edu, not only are enthusiasts apprised of the Institution but can easily gain access to the University’s sundry researches, as well.

Perhaps, one’s reluctance to conduct research primarily reels from the notion that it is a seemingly complex feat.  Nonetheless, contemplating on its pervasive and enduring benefits and the individual’s unwavering strive for purpose shall indubitably empower one to embark on such a rewarding venture.  – Geraldine Llanes - Leaño
