In a rare musical spectacle, the country’s biggest names in opera gathered for a performance at the University of Baguio on August 6.
The musical soirée put together sopranos Ana Feleo, Naomi Sison and Patrice Pacis, tenor Randy Gilongo and bass-baritone Noel Azcona – all renowned theatre artists – creating a performance reminiscent of a Broadway show in New York, considered the heart of the American theatre industry. The pack was completed by the University's – and the city's – homegrown tenor extraordinaire, Glenn Gaerlan.
Pieces from classical musicals such as “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables” and “Porgy and Bess” were performed. Timeless Filipino tunes were also played.
The show is the only one of its kind to be staged in any university north of Manila this year.
