This August, the University of Baguio (UB) community will celebrate UB’s 71st foundation anniversary.
UB president Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista will lead the celebration, which will include, among other highlight activities, the FAMERS (Faculty, Alumni, Management, Employees, Retirees, and Students) Awards which will honor the University's outstanding and dedicated employees, a series of outreach activities, and student activities spearheaded by the UB Office of Student Affairs.
The celebration will mark UB's 71 years of honing minds. UB founders Dr. Fernando “Tatay” Bautista and his wife Rosa “Nanay” Bautista put up the institution with the goal of helping rebuild the nation from the rubbles of the Second World War. Setting up a five-room structure along Session Road, they opened technical courses which could equip the young Filipinos with the necessary skills and competencies needed at the time. With 89 students and five teachers, they offered automotive mechanics, radio telegraphy, horology, typing, stenography, and bookkeeping.
In the years that followed, UB has steadily expanded its academic portfolio, alongside increasing access to education and providing more opportunities for students to develop on an all-inclusive scale.
Now, UB offers over 50 programs that cover a wide array of specializations.
UB’s programs are accredited by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) under the Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the Philippines. UB is the only higher education institution with the highest number of PACUCOA – accredited programs in the region.
UB president Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista, who assumed the presidency in June 2018,
will lead UB's 71st foundation anniversary celebration. He sits as chairman of the
UB 71st anniversary celebration committee.
