Two groups of UB Dentistry students participated in the conference. The group above authored the study “Motion
Comics as an Educational Medium for Oral Hygiene Instruction among Children Aged 7 to 8 Years”
which won first place in the conference's scientific research competition.
Bagging the first place, the University of Baguio (UB) brought home the bacon during the 10th Asian Conference of Oral Health Promotion for School Children held in Penang, Malaysia on Sept. 20-21.
Besting 80 other entries from different South East Asian countries, the UB School of Dentistry – with the study “Motion Comics as an Educational Medium for Oral Hygiene Instruction among Children Aged 7 to 8 Years” – finished as the first place in the scientific research competition. The study was presented by Dr. Joseph Acosta. Dr. Maria Lourdes Cantor, Hershey Jane Catalino, Shaira Mae Claro, Angelika Kaye Galiste, Miguela Angelica Ibarra, Mary Jeth Ligligen, Elaine Joy Mingming, Angelica Oropesa, and Kristel Cathleen Vina Supanga co-authored the said study.
Meanwhile, another study – “Caries Experience in Relation to Oral Hygiene Performance among Public School Children Ages 6-12 in Baguio City” – made it as a finalist. The study was undertaken by Elleny Jade Reliquias, Ma. Angelica Abellera, Daryll Barrientos, Paul Carlo Ignacio, Riva Lappao, Lovely Noble, Nicole Alexis Rillera, Bienalou Tolledo, and Jerrilen Valez, with their advisers Dr. Joseph Acosta, Dr. Maria Lourdes Cantor, and Dr. Cristina Lappao.
The two UB studies were the only entries from the Philippines.
The conference is held annually as a forum to discuss and advance mutual understanding of and cooperation in promoting oral health for school children in the participating countries and regions.

Ages 6-12 in Baguio City”, authored by the above-group, made it as a finalist in the competition.
