UB co-organizes marketing event for North Luzon students



The Philippine Junior Marketing Association, in partnership with the University of Baguio (UB), recently staged a seminar on marketing management that gathered students from the different colleges and universities in Northern Luzon.


A total of 1,259 marketing management came together for the event, dubbed “JUAN BIG IDEA: A Voyage towards Marketing Eminence” held at the UB Gymnasium on Nov. 15.


The activity included lectures on personal branding, brand management and entrepreneurship.


Nol Montalbo, founder and CEO of Mont Albo Massage Hut, talked about impression management and entrepreneurship. Accordingly, people have different kinds of personas which they present to others which become part of their personal branding. He recounted how he reached success, differentiating a businessman from an entrepreneur. It is better to become the latter, he said.


He also spoke on ways to make a business, product or brand stand out in the market. “[Just] be honest and authentic – it brings benefits not just to the entrepreneur but also to the customer,” he said.


Meanwhile, Therese “Gang” Badoy-Capati, a radio and television host and the founder of RockEd Philippines (a volunteer group which works on providing venues and organizing events for alternative education), discussed personal branding and its link to the ASEAN integration. “All Filipinos are brand managers building their own cultural identity… In order to properly manage your brand, I have three rules: be attractive, be consistent, and be honest,” she said.


She talked about how her company developed into something bigger than what started as an advocacy – one that revolves around her “dreams and love for the Philippines.” “Fall in love with your own country. That’s how you can eventually build your brand,” she said.


In addition, voice actor and youth advocate Pocholo Gonzales spoke about reputation management, emphasizing the important role one’s identity and image plays in establishing personal brand. “Be active members of the society,” he added.


The activity also included numbers by representatives from the participating universities, including the UB Graces dance troupe, as well as games and raffle draws. –Kenneth Roi Villanueva and Ivory Miles Batton

Kenneth Roi Villanueva is a graduating Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Marketing Management) student of the University of Baguio. Ivory Miles Batton is a 4th year student of the same course in the University.
