The University of Baguio (UB) emerged as the champion in the indoor football tournament during the 5th Foreign Students’ Inter-School Sports Fest held at the UB Gym last April 28.
UB finished with a score of 50 points in the match, crushing the University of the Cordilleras (UC), which registered 40 points.
Prior to the UB – UC match, UB competed against Pines City Colleges (PCC). The said match concluded with UB winning over PCC.
The event aimed to serve as a platform for encouraging the spirit of sportsmanship among the foreign students in Baguio.
“Sport teaches us teamwork. Whether we win or lose, it teaches us sportsmanship. The thing is, sports develop in the participants sportsmanship and camaraderie, two vital characteristics that apply not only in sports but also, more importantly, in life,” remarked Alaa Abdulatty, president of the UB International Students’ Association, during the opening program.
The event also included competitions in volleyball, table tennis, and badminton. The indoor football – locally termed "futsal" – was refereed by Richard Almonte and Marv Andrew De Leon.
