University of Baguio (UB) chess wizard Bea Mendoza brought honor to the country anew in the recently concluded 18th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship held in Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia on Nov. 25 – Dec. 4.

Mendoza, a grade 11 student of the UB Senior High School, captured the gold medal in the rapid chess category. She also snatched the silver medal in the blitz chess category. The tournament, organized by the ASEAN Chess Confederation, included three categories under each age group – blitz, rapid, and standard.
