UB wins gold in nat’l culinary competition

The University of Baguio (UB)  finished as gold medalist in the 2019 Philippine Culinary Cup held at the SMX Convention Center and World Trade Center in Manila last Aug. 7-10.

 

 

Competing against 48 teams, UB secured the gold medal in the Filipino Cuisine Challenge category of the competition. UB was the only academe-based participant that qualified for the gold medal. The two other gold medalists are teams of culinary professionals from established restaurants. 

 

 

The UB team prepared the following recipes: appetizer – balatong soup (heirloom beans); main course – tinupig na manok iti langkwas (roasted chicken in turmeric leaf and banana leaf), sauces – nilupak na salamagi (young tamarind sauce), diro ken perres (honey with lime), asin ken sili (salt and chilli pepper); vegetable dish – inatsara nga rabong (pickled bamboo shoots); and starch dish – pinakpakan nga inapoy (native rice and root crops).

 

 

The UB team was formed by Robenson Dasalla, Sweet Chumawar, and Neil Mangaoang as the core participants, with Von Asunsion, Jenny Jose, and Jyra Emperador as co-participants.
