UBLES celebrates ‘Buwan ng Wika’

The participants dressed in traditional costumes of the different cultural groups of the Philippines.

The University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) participated in this year’s celebration of Buwan ng Wika.

Activities designed to reinforce the pupils’ appreciation of the Filipino language were held in observation of the Buwan ng Wika. These include games such as laro ng lahi which was played during the school’s Foundation Day, the search for lakan at lakambini, pagbigkas ng tula or sabayang pagbigkas, and the tagisan ng talino.

An awarding ceremony was held last Aug. 27, where the winners were awarded with certificates and prizes.

The activities were organized by the UBLES Filipino faculty members. This year’s chairperson is Maybelle Ticse.

This year’s theme is “Katutubong Wika tungo sa Iisang Bansang Filipino.”

The nationwide celebration is spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd). DepEd mandates elementary and secondary schools to implement activities that will reinforce appreciation of the Filipino language among the students.  – Alicia Viduya
