Filipinos love music. Our history and culture tells us that early Filipinos were musically inclined. Such love and passion for music carried on until today. It’s no wonder why, at an early age, children already show talents in singing and dancing. But not everyone is confident enough to show their talent in singing or dancing.

This is the concept behind the three-day musical competition organized by teachers and staff of the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) last Jan. 22-24.

Different activities were conducted during the event. In the vocal solo and duet competitions, the participants chose their own piece which was based on the theme of the activity – cultivating Filipino culture and values. A dance competition was likewise held as part of the activity.

In each performance, the learner participants are given an opportunity to overcome the challenges posed by being in front of people. They are also provided an opportunity to connect with the audience. Most importantly, they get to learn from others and as a result grow and develop as individuals. – Alicia Viduya
