AHMET, BACHELOR OF ARTS IN COMMUNICATION
Our featured fashionista for this week is of Turkish descent. He caught the fashion bug at age 11. “Back in elementary, girls at my school would stare whenever I walk up to the school. I guess that’s when I figured that maybe I know how to dress up really well.”
Ahmet listens to a lot of rap – Turkish rap – and his comfort track is “Rüzgar Hiç Aglar Mi?” by Turkish rapper Taladro.
As to his style, he has a penchant for mild prints and patterns, and he blends them so well. His favorite style item is watch, and his style icon is Turkish model and actor Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ.
A little backstory: He warned us he didn’t have any experience posing for the camera. But…
Style a geometric or any printed top of your choice with plain jeans or solid-colored pants.
A minimalistic letterman (or university jacket) or leather jacket would be convenient for any temperature drop especially in the late afternoon.
Complete the ensemble with shoes that go with your aesthetic (like sneakers, boots or slip-ons).
Match a top (like a button-up) with softer prints with a comfy cardigan or cashmere sweater detailed with more distinct patterns.
For a refined look, throw on a pair of chinos and a good ol' pair of loafers or brogues.
If you're going for a casual look, jeans and sneakers would be the perfect option, like this one.
This season has so much to offer when it comes to prints.
(Gucci, Prada, and Fendi all featured oriental prints in their Fall/Winter 2016-2017 collections last March.)
At the same time, men may need to take a break from all the plain and monochromatic fabrics they always tend to wear.
STYLE TIP FOR THE WEEK
Okay, so not a lot of men wear prints. Convention says “patterns” and “men” do not usually go together. But fashion always has a way of breaking the rules and challenging the conventions.
You might remember our first blog post, which was about textures and prints. The same rules apply to men.
Prints and patterns definitely add visual interest to an outfit, and there are various prints and patterns you can play with: plaid, checks, geometrics, camouflage, ethnic, paisley, florals, art prints and even animal prints if you're on the bolder side.
Our featured fashionista may make it look so effortless to pull off the print ensemble. But you know what? It is. As long as it speaks about your individuality. It is the key to looking stylish without trying so hard – wearing something that’s who you are. With this in mind, you’re sure you can always be effortlessly stylish.
