Style for Starters
IAIN, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
This week we’re definitely breathing some British air. Iain here, who is part British and part Filipino, reminds us of British men, who seem to come across as naturally stylish without putting in a lot of effort. (For one, British men are the most stylish in the world. Think David Beckham). Look at any stylish British guy and you’ll notice that his outfit is actually very simple. This is what our feature this week is all about – the universal style rule that is simplicity.

STYLE TIPS
Most people think that the road to being stylish is ‘long and winding.’ This is not necessarily true. While the road is paved with trial-and-error experiments (a lot of them), it’s also laced with simple rules. For starters, here are three basic tips to getting started in the game called style:
TIP #1: START WITH THE BASIC
Opt for the basic pieces, like the last two tops – a button-up shirt of light shade and a white shirt underneath a black pullover. For one, basic pieces are timeless and will forever be stylish.
TIP #2: BALANCE TRENDY PIECES WITH BASIC ONES
Want to squeeze into something that’s trendy? That’s perhaps given. Just make sure you balance out the look with basic (or classic) pieces. The first ensemble features an Earth brown flight jacket which was thrown over a shirt in forest green color. Part of playing the style game is being not afraid to try out unconventional color combinations. You just have to make sure you won’t go over the top, else you’ll lose the balance that an outfit needs.
TIP #3: WEAR WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON YOU
Okay, this is obviously common sense, but it’s a basic rule that’s often overlooked. Some think that draping yourself in every single trend will make you stylish – on a certain level, it doesn’t. There are certain items that do not necessarily flatter your body type; you might want to steer clear of such pieces. For colors, there are those that kind of make you ‘glow’ when you put them on – stick to such hues and avoid those that do otherwise. The same applies with textures – you’ll know it when a certain fabric looks good on you. After all, what’s the change room for, right?
Afterthought: Couldn’t help but notice the last photo – there’s just something warm about it… It evokes some Christmas nostalgia, reminding us that it’s that time of the year again... <3

Okay, so apart from photography, our featured photographer, Sue, is into singing!
This week she’s covering Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
On Why ‘Roar’
I think the hardest battles we face are the ones that happen internally, and when I say that my biggest enemy is myself, I actually mean it. I am my own greatest critic and sometimes I hate myself for that. There are just moments when I can’t help but put myself down, and whenever that happens, I find it the hardest to manage. I am thankful that over time I have slowly overcome that struggle. Whenever I face difficulties and feel like giving up because I tend to underestimate myself, I talk myself into believing that I CAN do it and that I shouldn’t listen to the ‘scared-y cat’ side of me telling me to give up.
Whenever I sing “Roar,” it’s actually me telling myself to not listen to my fears, to silence that voice inside that tells me I am not capable of doing what seems impossible because I know that if I truly put my heart into it, I CAN.
